Labaran-Maku 600Information Minister Mr. Labaran Maku has urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State to support the state government to enforce peace in the state devoid of any political consideration. The Minister made the call in Abuja when he received the chairmen of the PDP in 31 Local Governments and Development Areas of Nasarawa State on a courtesy visit.

He said even though the PDP is in the opposition in the state, the party should pick keen interest in promoting peace and security to guard against wanton destruction of life and property in parts of the state.

“The fact that we are out of power for the past two years does not mean that we should not promote peace or support the state government to enforce peace. No! We are a responsible opposition; we know our responsibility. Peace is not partisan,” he said.

Mr. Maku advised the PDP to reach out to all the affected communities and appeal to their youths to give peace a chance in order to have a prosperous future.

He said the Federal Government would continue to support the Nasarawa State Government to achieve peace across the state while noting that the quick intervention of the Federal Government in the recent crisis had restored considerable calm to the affected areas. “We will do everything we can from here to help the state government and to help the
affected communities restore order and normalcy”, he remarked.

Mr. Maku said the Federal Government is now monitoring the situation very closely and would act swiftly to ensure there is law and order whenever the need arises.

He equally called on religious and community leaders to actively participate in the campaign for peace to create the enabling environment for people of the state to go about their normal business and earn a living.

The Minister observed that the recurring violence had negatively affected the image of the state which recorded huge loss of life and property coupled with the disruption of social and economic activities and enjoined all people of goodwill in the state to commit themselves to
reversing the trend.

He condemned divisive and bitter politics, which according to him, is usually promoted by political thuggery and urged the youth to desist from being used by selfish politicians to achieve their personal ambitions.

In his remarks, the leader of the delegation, Mallam Mohammed Garba Isimbabi, thanked President Goodluck Jonathan for the timely intervention in the Nasarawa State crisis, which had contained the crisis from spiralling out of control.

He gave the assurance that the people of the state are now united across ethnic and political divides to promote peaceful co-existence.

Mallam Mohammed Isimbabi pledged the support of the Nasarawa State PDP for President Goodluck Jonathan and the national leadership of the PDP under the chairmanship of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and said the party is mobilising to reclaim the Nasarawa State from the opposition in 2015 general elections.
