The Vigilance Group of Nigeria (VGN), Adamawa chapter, on Wednesday appealed to the state government and non-Governmental Organisations to help in training its members toward strengthening community policing in the state.

Mr Bashir Usman, the chapter’s Public Relations Officer made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola.

Usman said that members of the group needed training in the art of gathering intelligence that could be passed to relevant security agencies to take action.

“We do not have the right to arrest, but we can gather intelligence and pass same to security agencies for further action.

“So, we are calling on the state government and Non-Governmental Organisations to train our members towards complimenting community policing in the state.“

Usman also called on the state government to support the group with logistics to enable them carry out their operations.

“We do not generate income; our support mostly come from traditional rulers and those who feels oblige to help us.’’ (NAN)
