The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has called on the Muslim Umah to offer prayers for the peace, unity, and development of the country during the month of Ramadan.

He made the call in a goodwill message to the Muslim Umah on the occasion of this year’s Ramadan Fast.

Senator Ekweremadu who described the month of Ramadan as a month of peace, holiness, and closer relationship with God said it was “an opportunity for sober reflection towards restoring true national reconciliation, peace and unity without which no country could make any meaningful progress”.

He said: “Unforgiveness, false teachings, hate, and bitterness are the spiritual and emotional poisons that promote extremism, insurgency, terrorism, and wanton destruction of lives and property, which paralyze peaceful co-existence and stifle national development.

“It therefore behooves on the Muslim Umah and indeed all Nigerians to pray for divine intervention in our national affairs and work together to enthrone true national reconciliation, forgiveness, lasting peace, and respect for constituted authorities which are the core messages of Islam and the Holy Month of Ramadan”.

He wished the Muslim Umah a successful and fruitful Ramadan.
