#TrackNigeria – Once again there was bedlam around Eagle Square and Federal Secretariat areas as police fired shots and tear gas to disperse protesters believed to be Shiites.
Newsdiaryonline observed billows of smoke around Eagle Square area at about 1.30pm .Vehicles moved at dizzying speed trying to avoid being cut in the clash.There were consequent traffic obstructions along the area.Much later billows of smoke were seen from the area.
Our correspondent reported hearing gun shots fired, just as canisters of teargas were used. Heavy teargas could be seen flowing in the Federal secretariat area which became a temporary riot scene, a correspondent observed.
Protesters believed to be Shiite supporters moved in different directions as the clash with the police and other security forces continued.
The clash evidently distracted public servants some of whom came out to their offices and took vantage positions to watch the clash far away from the melee.
The Shiite said they are demanding the release of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky from detention.
