Nigerian security men brutally assaulted two newspaper reporters during the welcome reception held in honour of the Super eagles of Nigeria at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Tuesday afternoon in Abuja.
The reporters, (names withheld) who were at the airport to cover the heroic return of the Super Eagles of Nigeria were subjected to physical assault by men of the Nigeria Police Force and those of the Nigeria Air Force .
Checks revealed that the reporters approached the airport, when a sergeant (names with held) attached to the Nigeria Air force denied them access into the interior part of the airport, from where they could access news. One of the senior reporters, on disclosing his identity as a reporter was verbally assaulted by the security men.
A Sergeant of the Nigeria Air Force made frantic efforts to confiscate the identity card with the pledge to slice it into shreds.
The other reporter who made attempt to clarify their status as journalists , came under physical assault , on the orders of Nigeria police a Supol (names withheld). The Nigeria police Supol, and the Nigeria Air Force sergeant instructed their junior officers to assault the reporters. They paid deaf ears to pleas from onlookers, and rebuffed entreaties to accord the reporters due recognition as journalists.
