The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has condemned the killing of nine health workers who were administering polio vaccinations in two separate attacks in Kano on Friday.
The forum has equally expressed sadness at the killing of three North Korean doctors in Potiskum, Yobe State on Sunday.
Chairman of the forum and Governor of Niger State,Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu described the development as sad, unfortunate and regrettable, adding that the dastardly act constitutes a setback in the fight to eradicate polio and other preventable diseases.
“The killing of immunisation workers in Kano is certainly a setback in the fight to eradicate polio, but that would not put a stop to our resolve to end polio which is now only endemic in three countries-Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria,” the forum said in a statement signed by Gov Aliyu’s Chief Press Secretary, Danladi Ndayebo.
The forum extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and the government and people of the Republic of North Korea.
The statement commended the cooperation and understanding of North Korea and assured that the perpetrators of the murderous act would be arrested and made to face the wrath of the law.
The forum called on the security agencies to double their efforts in the discharge of their responsibilities of protecting the lives and property of citizens.
