Candidates for the March 16 Federal Capital Territory Area Councils’ elections on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC have been advised to operate a transparent leaderships in their respective office when elected by the electorates.
National Chairman of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Chief Tony Momoh gave this charge to the candidates at the weekend as he flagged off the party’s Campaign for all the various offices for the Area Councils’ election in the Territory.
He told the candidates to be focused and guided by the ideals of the party to enthrone the legacy of good governance in the Territory or risk the wrath of the people who are beginning to take government officials into account.
According to him the ideal of the party is to render service for the common good rather than sharing public funds for selves and cronies a development he said would always incur the wrath of the masses.
The Party chieftain said all the candidates seeking for elective offices must work hard and make the people support them at the polls which would enthrone a new style of leadership that would benefit FCT residents.
The National Chairman of the party who presented the CPC flags to the various candidates for the Chairmanship and councillorships offices cautioned the candidates that if they abuse their offices they would be stoned by the mob.
“Do not go there to share public funds, those who share public funds are the people to be stoned,” he cautioned.
He told the candidates to see their election as a responsibility to the people and live up to the expectation of the people by delivering on good services when elected even as he charged electorates to be vigilant after casting their votes and defend it informed them that they should not allow any immediate incentive make them trade their votes for their future.
He maintained that any electorate who relies on financial inducement to vote should blame himself for trading his future and by extension postponing betters days for himself and his family.
His words: “Vote and defend the vote, I will blame you who accept N100:00 to sell your vote. I will not blame the man who give you the money because it is your decision to change the present leadership in your area council for you and your family to have a better life in the FCT.
The National Secretary, Buba Galadima who addressed the people in Hausa told the supporters who gathered at the Area 11 parade ground that they should all work hard to deliver their respective candidates into office to enable them witness a new lease of life through a better governance style.
FCT Chairman of the CPC, Alhaji Isa Saidu said that the 152 aspirants purchased forms and after the screening 52 candidates emerged for various positions and pledged the readiness of the party to contest and win elections in territory with a view to make the people have a meaningful living in the Territory.
