The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) has strengthened its partnership with Switzerland Federal Commission on Migration.

This it said was for effective migration governance in Nigeria.

Mrs Sadiya Farouk, Commissioner, NCFRMI, made this known during a courtesy visit by the Switzerland Federal Commission on Migration (FCM) to NCFRMI in Abuja on Monday.

According to her, the essence of the meeting is aimed at focusing on capacity development to meet the current challenges of effective governance of migration by Nigerian migrants to European countries.

Farouk said developing and delivering capacity development on migration, requires the participation of a wide range of actors, including governments and local authorities, international and regional organisations.

“The livelihood support interventions we have been providing by NCFRMI have been proved to be supportive for persons of concern in the country.

“But the support is not enough, it requires the help of of regional organisations, governments and relevant stakeholders department for adequate assistance.

“Our foreign policy on migration has achieved some level of success but requires assistance through the relevant organisations,” she said.

On his part, the President, FCM, Mr Walter Leimgruber, promised that the Switzerland government would  do its possible best to ensuring adequate governance on Migration of Nigerian migrants to European countries.

Leimgruber said European Union fully embeded the issue of migration in its overall foreign policy dialogue with third countries, keeping in mind that some of the countries were equally affected by migratory flows than Europe.

“Millions of people are on the move worldwide and we can only manage this if we act globally, in full partnership,” he said.
