The Kano State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), has presented the “Best Sports Journalist Award’’ to Muhammad Nur Tijani of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano.
The President of SWAN, Mr Honour Sirawo, who chaired the event commended the state chapter of SWAN for honouring sportsmen and women and personalities in the state.
He said Tijani was given the award because of his outstanding contributions and coverage of sports in the state.
Tijani was honoured at the second edition of Kano SWAN Sports Awards 2018 at the Chilla Luxury Suites in Kano.
Represented the Deputy President, Umar Saidu, Sirawo said SWAN at the national level would continue to support sports writers to boost sports, particularly at the grassroots.
He also urged government at all levels to invest in sports development.
Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, a board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), thanked SWAN for uplifting sports in the country.
He urged the awardees to do more and to encourage others to get involved in sports development.
Earlier, Tijani thanked the organisers for finding him worthy of the award.
Tijani, who dedicated the award to NAN, promised to continue to give sports the needed coverage. (NAN)
