After Team Kwara lost 0-3 to Team FCT at the 19th National Sports Festival (NSF) on Saturday, coach Kadir Abdulkadir could only lay the blame on lack of training and facilities.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kwara lost in Round of 32 fixtures of the male and female events of table tennis competition at the ongoing NSF in Abuja.
Recalling his athletes’ defeat in both the men’s and women’s singles, Abdulkadir said the team did not train for the competition and had no facilities.
“We did not train at all. We just entered our vehicle and came here. We also don’t have the facilities to train and it showed in our performance.
“It is sad for us, but we hope to be better. However, we still have the para and deaf events of the table tennis competition to feature in and we hope to be victorious in those events,” he said.
In other events, Abia walked over Gombe State as Femi Oludayo of Kano State defeated Emmanuel Igioye of Kwara (11-6 11-6 11-13 11-9) in Class 10 of para table tennis men’s singles.
Adeboye Adekoya of Rivers also knocked out Kayode Shonde of Ogun (11-5 11-5 11-4) in the quarter-finals of para table tennis men’s singles class 10.
NAN reports that the 19th NSF which began on Thursday is scheduled to end on Dec. 16.(NAN)
