By Mohammed Lawal
A Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Sheik Tukur
He stated this in a lecture organised by Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN), Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) branch, held at the hospital in Zaria, Kaduna State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the lecture is: ‘‘Appraisal of Politics and Unionism on Health Care Delivery in Nigeria.’’
NAN also reports that the lecture was one of the series of activities lined-up for the association’s 5th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Health Week Programme for 2019.
Almannar advised Muslims to always put the fear of Allah above everything in whatever they do, adding they should always seek to do things in accordance with the teachings of Islam.
‘‘The lecture is not all about politics but the topic is somehow linked to it.
‘‘Prophet Muhammad (SAW) identified three persons that Almighty Allah will not look at them on the Day of Judgement.
‘He will not talk to them, will not purify them, will not praise them and they will dwell in chastisement of Hell fire.
‘‘I decided to bring this Hadith because one person out of these three sets of people is among them.
‘‘The first person is a traveler that possessed some water while another traveler desperately in need of water requested for same, but the man in possession of the water denied the other person which led to the death or serious injury of the one in need of the water.
‘‘The second person is somebody who elects a leader for material gains.
‘‘If that leader gives him appointment or contracts, he will be happy and praise him; otherwise he will betray the leader and start plotting evil against him.
‘‘The third person is he, who under false pretence, swear by Allah in a business transaction after inflating the price; he swear just to convince the person buying from him, even though he is lying.’’
When asked specifically who to elect as president considering the fact that the two major contenders are Muslims, Almannar said both of them had held positions before.
He opined that Nigerians tested and verified what each one of them did during their previous tenures of office.
‘‘Every politician is being judged according to what he has done before, whoever does good would be re-elected and whoever does bad would be thrown out by the electorate.
‘‘The incumbent President had held a similar position in military uniform before.
‘‘I could recall, his slogan was, ‘War Against Indiscipline (WAI)’ and by then Nigeria had started taking shape but he was hated, accused and later overthrown.
‘‘However, when Nigeria was destabilised, it was the same person we collectively elected to come and lead us out of trauma in 2015.
‘‘But the journey is not yet over; some people have started accusing him, why?
‘‘I will not say that you should vote this one and leave the other.
‘‘But stick to the person that is honest, sincere, truthful, non-corrupt and who has the interest of Nigeria at heart,’’ he advised.
Malam Abubakar Lawal-Yusuf, the Chief Imam of Kaduna Polytechnic, urged the medical practitioners to fear Allah (SWT) in all their worldly endeavours.
He enjoined them to carry out their medical functions in accordance with the teachings of Qur’an and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (SAW).
Lawal-Yusuf said, ‘‘A section of this is a section that somebody can get to Aljanna (paradise) and at the same time he can throw himself into the hell fire.
‘‘In as much as they are just in whatever they do and they should fear Allah (SWT), and know that whatever they do even if people don’t see them Allah sees them, that will make them to have piety.’’
According to him, it is not only the five daily prayers, fasting, compulsory charity and going on pilgrimage that will earn somebody Aljanna (paradise).
‘‘As medical professionals, you should have the fear of Allah and you should also show compassion, care and love to those who come to them, especially the sick ones.
‘‘You shouldn’t make harsh statements against the sick, it is as if you are pushing them away from you instead of inviting them and this will psychologically translate to more sickness.
‘‘Prophet (SAW) said, those who are merciful, Allah the Most Merciful will have mercy on them.
‘‘Again, Prophet (SAW) said, have mercy on those that are below you and He who is in the heaven will have mercy on you too.’’
NAN reports that during the IMAN ABUTH 2019 Health Week Programme, the association offered free surgical and ophthalmic operations to 140 patients and attended to over 2,500 patients.
It also provided free medical services to over 300 Almajiris, as well as food, cardigans and other basic items.(NAN)
