Mr Akin Olateru, Commissioner, Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), says the bureau will focus more on infrastructure upgrade and human capital development in 2019.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Olateru made the declaration while speaking with newsmen on Wednesday in Lagos.

Olateru, while appraising the AIB’s performance in 2018, expressed satisfaction with the achievements recorded during the period.

He said that the agency would not rest on its oars until it became a world class accident investigation institution.

“For 2019, we shall be better than before. We will do more in upgrading our infrastructure, equipment and invest more on human capital development.

“All these I believe will make AIB a world class institution and make it an enviable place to work.

“I therefore call on us all to roll up our sleeves, tighten our seat belts and be prepared for greater work deliveries.

“This we shall do in a most cordial manner, fostering an even better working relationship with dynamism,” the commissioner said.

He thanked the entire AIB team for the unalloyed support and cooperation he had enjoyed working with them through 2018.

According to him, the AIB was one of the outstanding aviation agencies in 2018, especially with the timely release of incident and accident reports, unlike in the previous years before he came on board.

He noted that the feat earned the AIB commendation by the highly revered United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

The commissioner said the agency would continue to work assiduously toward improving air safety in Nigeria and beyond.

Olateru said the bureau also recorded a milestone in December 2018 when it released a final report on an accident involving Cavok Airlines at the Sao Tome International Airport, Sao Tome and Principe on July 29, 2017. (NAN)
