Some 1,000 youth groups across the 23 local government Sokoto state have called on the state Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Alhaji Faruk Malami Yabo to resign his appointment and contest the 2015 governorship election.
In addition, the groups have vowed to, this week, purchase governorship nomination form for him.
The leadership of the groups told Newsdiaryonline that their decision was based on the leadership qualities of Yabo that, they say, transcend those of others seeking to contest the office.
Alhaji Bashir Suleiman of Sokoto Progressive Forum (SPF); Hajiya Rabi Saidu of Women For Good Leadership In Sokoto (WGLS) and Mr. Abraham Gabriel of Open Leadership/Followership Initiative (OLFI) told Newsdiaryonline that their reason was based on the demand of the people of the state.
“After Wamakko completes his tenure by 2015, Faruk Yabo will be the only candidate that could replace him. He has the qualities; he has the people’s support; he open and accommodating,” Gabriel said.
While Rabi said that 80 percent of the females in the state were in total support of Yabo, Sulieman disclosed that the youths had contributed money to purchase nomination form for him.
