2 in court for allegedly driving `one way’, killing inspector

 Two men, Yusuf Abdulrahman and Anthony Abadi, who allegedly drove recklessly and caused the death of Insp.Felix Adewunmi, on Friday appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Abdulrahman, 43, and Abadi, 43, are to facing charges of reckless driving, driving without licence and manslaughter.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the duo, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Kehinde Olatunde, had told the court that the duo committed the offences on July 1, at 1.00p.m, on Eko Bridge on Lagos Island.

He alleged that Abadi recklessly drove an ambulance Hiace with registration number GGE 430 EH and hit  Adewunmi while on duty.

“Abadi passed `one way’ and in a bid to avoid oncoming vehicles, he swerved and knocked down Adewunmi who was on patrol. Abdulrahman was also caught driving behind him in a Nissan SUV,“ he said.

The alleged offences contravene Sections 28 and 36 of the Traffic Act, 2012, and Section 26 of Lagos State Road Traffic Laws, 2012, as well  as Section 20 of the Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2012.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr O. O. Olatunji, granted the duo bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties each in like sum, and adjourned the case until Aug. 6 for mention. (NAN)
