Two brother, Johnbull Uji, 66, and Samuel Uji, 58, who were charged with attempted murder, were on Tuesday granted N250,000 bail each, by an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State.
Johnbull and Samuel of no fixed addresses are standing trial on a three-count charge of felony, unlawful assault and attempted murder of one Igbala Obakpolo.
The Magistrate, Mr Banji Ayeomoni granted bail to the accused persons after they had pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Ayeomoni ordered them to produce a surety each in like sum who must show evidence of one year tax payment to the Ondo State Government.
He adjourned the case till April 5 for further hearing.
The Prosecutor, Insp Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the accused with another person now at large, committed the offence on Feb. 27, at a construction site along Okitipupa-Igbokoda Road, Okitipupa.
Orogbemi said that the accused on the said date at about 2:00 p.m. conspired to commit felony and unlawfully assaulted on the complainant by beating him with fist blows.
He alleged that there was a minor argument over a debt of N50,000 being owed by the complainant and an attempt by the accused to collect it.
He told the court that in an attempt to collect the said amount, the accused persons allegedly hit the complainant with a big iron rod and he fell into coma for a day.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 355, 351 and 320(2) of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006. (NAN)
