A call has been made for Nigerian opposition parties to remain very active.Mr Emma Ezeazu ,general secretary of Alliance for Credible Elections, ACE said there is an urgent need for the opposition to organise itself vigorously for success politically. If there is no opposition, competition will not be strong and this may enable the ruling party to ride rough shod over the people.A weak opposition is not good for democracy, he argued.
Ezeazu spoke on Wednesday at a conference of opposition parties in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory,FCT.He said a strong opposition is a precondition for the recapture of the Nigerian project, for redirecting attention to the Nigerian people.
Former Speaker ,House of Representatives, Aminu Bello Masari said the opposition truly needs to seriously organize. The problem of opposition at the moment include ‘lack resources, lack of discipline and lack of organisation’ ,Masari said.Opposition must be anchored on principles and ideals not individuals ,he added.
The conference became even more imperative given the voter apathy in the last council polls in the FCT.
