One hundred teachers from each of the 23 local government areas of Sokoto State today, received a total of N200 million loan from Sokoto state government.
Supposed to be a revolving loan for all teachers across the state, Governor Aliyu Wamakko disbursed the loan to the first batch of 2,300 teachers at the headquarters of the State Universal Education Board (SUBEB).
Among the beneficiaries were supervisors, who received N106,000 each; headmasters, who got N80,000 each and classroom teachers, who received N50,000 each.
The governor emphasized the importance of motivation in efficient service delivery and called on teachers to redouble their efforts in order to achieve the desired goals.
“I am hereby urging the beneficiaries of the revolving loan to make the use of the money to ease their means of transportation and other domestic issues,” Wamakko said while calling on parents to complement government’s efforts by sending their children to schools.
He added that the state government had sponsored 226 teachers abroad to undergo different education courses leading to the award of various Masters Degrees.
SUBEB chairman, Prof. Musa Maitafsir said that the loan would boost the morale of teachers as well as motivate them towards their work.
Also, four vehicles were given to Wamakko, Tambuwal, Goronyo and Illela zonal education offices for schools supervision.
