Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima has Wednesday pointed accusing fingers at his political opponents, saying they are behind the recent bombings and destruction of public infrastructure in order to sabotage his administration.
He however excused the main suspected culprits, Boko Haram, whom he said no longer has interest in attacking government infrastructure. But the governor insisted that some opposition politicians in the state have bought over the platform of Boko Haram to cause mischief.
‘Most of the destructions of public Properties are the handiwork of some opposition politicians who do not want us to succeed; believe you me Boko Haram will not condescend to doing things like this’.
‘But I know politicians can do it, they will act like Boko Haram to attack our projects, but we will surely overcome them. We as a government will not fold our hands, but we will provide adequate security to all government projects across the state’, said Shettima.
The governor made this remark while inspecting a special irrigation project that is powered by aerial sprinkler technology which is one of its kind in the country. The project engineers had on Monday escaped attack by gunmen.
He thereby directed that 40 armed security personnel comprising of soldiers, police officers as well as 30 vigilante personnel should be deployed to guard the Sprinkler Irrigation scheme until it is completed.
