The primary elections of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for  candidates to contest  the State House of Assembly  poll  were largely a  consensus affair  in 17 of the 23 local governments councils of Sokoto state.

The State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma disclosed that the party would conduct the primary elections in Dange/Shuni, Sokoto South, Sokoto North, Gwadabawa, Bodinga and Tambuwal local governments areas only.

He however said that concerted efforts were being made to reach consensus in the remaining local governments areas before the end of the day.

Noting that since consensus had reduced intra-party squabbles, same arrangement was being worked out for the National Assembly and gubernatorial primary elections.

In a related development, Chairman of the 5-man electoral panel, Alhaji Haruna Saidu told news men that a total of 1,156 delegates were said to have voted in today’s State Assembly primary elections.

He explained that of the number, 732 were ad hoc delegates, while the rest were statutory delegates, (special delegates).

“These are the delegates who will vote in today’s exercise and they are drawn from the 244 wards of the 23 local governments of the state,” Saidu said.

Saidu expressed satisfaction with the arrangements made by the state chapter of the party to ensure the hitch-free conduct of the primaries.
