Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo will attend a programme organised to celebrate the victory of the Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola on Sunday, 2nd November, 2014.
The event, Victory Colloquium for Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola with the theme, Osun Election: A Pathway For Nigeria’s Democratic Growth is organised by The Gazelle News.com, an online news medium, in conjunction with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Aregbesola on MDGs.
According to the organisers of the programme, the theme topic lecture will be delivered by the National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Muiz Banire while the following will discuss the theme lecture paper: Professor Lakin Akintola of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo; M.O. Ubani, esq, Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja branch; and Mr Kunle Ajibade, Executive Editor, The News magazine.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal will be the Special Guest of Honour just as former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola is expected to lead a special victory toast.
APC National Leader and former National Chairman of the party: Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; and Chief Adebisi Akande respectively will be the chief hosts; current APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun will be the father of the day while Senator Oluremi Tinubu will be the mother of the day. All APC governors are special guests at the occasion.
Expected to moderate the event is former acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) now chieftain of the APC, Alhaji Kawu Baraje.
According to Honourable Abdullah Adeyanju Binuyo, SSA on MDGs to Aregbesola and Chairman of the Organising Committee for the event, the event was organised not only to celebrate the victory of Aregbesola at the polls but also to use the occasion to chart a new way for democracy in Nigeria.
“The over militarisation and intimidating atmosphere during the Osun guber polls have been well documented. Despite this, the people of Osun stood up in full vigilance not only to vote for the candidate of their choice but also rose to stoutly defend their votes.
“The people of Osun thus proved that no intimidation and harrassment can stop the people’s will from prevailing over any seeming difficulty,” Binuyo said.
According to him, the event is thus organised to use the Osun experience as a reference point for future elections in Nigeria with a view to making the people’s actual votes counting during elections.
