The Bauchi state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has described as merciless the attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

It also said xenophobia is barbaric, uncivilised, disappointment and an attack on the unity of Africa.

This is contained in a statement by the Secretary of the Council, Comrade Kassim Gamawa made available Sunday.

“It has been brought the attention NYCN that in recent our fellow brothers and sisters are being openly attacked, killed and harassed by some most enemies of Africa’s unity in (South-Africa).

“The Nigerian Youth Council has described these series of attacks on ‘xenophobia’ as a barbaric, uncivilized as well as a total disappointment to our Africa’s past heroes and the freedom fighters who devoted most of their time trying to unite the continent.

“So, any attempt of discrimination or prejudice to a fellow African would be considered as a clear disappointment to them especially the Africa’s fathers of unity and anti-discrimination like Nelson Mandela, Thomas Sankara, Kwami Nkurma, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Idi Amin etc.

“In fact, this xenophobic attack stands unacceptable, shamefulness, ignominious and disgracefulness to all Africans,” the statement read adding that “Africans should not be labelled as foreigners on their own continent, as that too brings with its negative attitudes.

“The Pan-African Organisation has members from 42 countries in Africa, including South Africa itself. So let us maintain our well-known brotherhood. Africa is one!”

The Council called on the government of South Africa to warn and call its citizens to order as well as take all necessary actions to halt the ongoing attacks.
