Nigeria has in a move that surprises many people, ordered the release of the Russian aircraft which has been detained at Kano airport since Saturday.
The Chief of Air Staff ,Air Marshal Adesola Amosu who gave the order said all the checks have revealed nothing controversial on the plane .
Last night ,the French Ambassador to Nigeria admitted that the cargo was carrying two helicopters belonging to the French Army .The ambassador also hinted that diplomatic efforts toward the release of the plane was afoot .He denied that there are weapons and ammunition aboard the aircraft
Some Nigerian officials earlier today sounded defiant when they told PRNigeria that the plane would not be released until after investigations.
Picturess obtained by PRNigeria which were published by Newsdiaryonline.com also showed some apparently sealed boxes in the aircraft the content of which were unknown.
Defiant Nigerian officials harped on the need to crosscheck the mission of the plane in the light of alleged French links with insurgents.
An official told PRNigeria earlier today:“Nigeria has no reason to release the aircraft and its cargo until investigation is concluded.”
“In view of the evidence of active collaboration with Boko Haram terrorists by some French speaking neighbouring countries, it has become pertinent for Nigeria to be conscious and be more careful in these matters”,PRNigeria reported.
Well, the order by the chief of air staff puts paid to all the Boko Haram fears as he has said nothing controversial was found on the plane.We have not seen any controversial item”,Amosu said.
