Eye witnesses who spoke to our correspondent reported that, the 20- man gang invaded the community in three tricycles (Keke NAPEP) and started attacking any young man in sight.
It was gathered that, Shamsudeen who was a carpenter, was on his way to his workshop when he ran into the dangerous gang, along Jama’a road in Ungwan Rimi.
An eye witness, Usman Aliyu said the gang members started macheting the late Shamsudeen and even used a stone to smash his head, while shouting in Hausa, who so ever can save him to come out, we are on ground waiting for such person.
The eye witness added that seeing the kind of weapons brandished by the gang, residents had no option but to run for their lives which made the gang to have had a field day without confrontation from anybody’.
Speaking to newsmen at Shehu Laminu Road residence of the deceased, his mother, Hajiya Husaina Abubakar said her son bade her farewell around 8.10 in the morning and about 40 minutes later she received a call that her son is at Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital dead.
She further said that her late son was a peace loving man whom she could not remember of having any problem with anybody.
The elder brother of the deceased, Aminu Abdullhamid, said when he got the information about what happened to his brother, he organised some people and rushed to the scene where they saw him in a pool of his blood with machete cuts all around his body and his head smashed open.
According to him, “we immediately used the uncle’s car to convey him to Ungwa Rimi Divisional Police office in order to get a police escort to the hospital, but the police told us we should go while they will meet us at the hospital. After much persuasion, they remained adamant; we had to take the body to Barau Dikko hospital.
“It was on our way to the hospital that we saw the Commissioner of Police coming in a convoy, we used our car to block him and showed him the badly wounded Shamsudeen in our car. One of the officers in his convoy asked us to take him straight to the hospital, where he later gave up the ghost,” he said.
