The police on Monday arraigned a native doctor, Fatai Omotosho, in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly obtaining N7 million from one Samuel Eneja on the pretext of making a sacrifice.
Omotosho, a 41 year- old resident of Ijaye area of Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.
According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase, the accused committed the offences sometime in August at Ojokoro, Lagos.
He said that the accused obtained N7 million from the complainant on the pretext of assisting him to make sacrifice in order to save his life.
Awase said the accused had taken the complainant to an accomplice now at large who told him to bring N7 million to avert the death in which the complainant paid in instalments.
The prosecutor added that when the complainant discovered that he had been duped, he reported the matter to the police and the accused was arrested.
The offences, he said, contravened Sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 314 prescribes 15 years jail term if found guilty.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr J.A Adigun, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
