Following the intervention of the  Minister of Sports and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, NSC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi the crisis over the title right of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) has been finally resolved.

The matter was resolved today at an extensive meeting the Minister had with parties involved in the crisis in Abuja. At the meeting were representatives of the League Management Committee (LMC), Total Promotions and Globacom Nigeria Limited.

It was agreed that Globacom would be the Title Sponsor of the League for three seasons, and would also pay an undisclosed fee to Total Promotions as compensation for giving out the right.

It will be recalled that the Nigeria Premier League had been plagued by several crises in the last two seasons mainly due to the controversies over Title and Broadcast rights. This had impacted negatively on funding for the league.

Earlier this week the newly inaugurated League Management Committee reached out to the Minister to help resolve the crisis over title right. This had become imperative as the LMC needed funds to kick-start the 2013 league.

The  Minister went to work, inviting all the parties to his office in Abuja. After several meetings and give-and-take, the matter was amicably resolved to the satisfaction of all the parties. However, efforts to resolve the broadcast rights issue are on going.
