Sokoto Dec. 1, 2018 (NAN) The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) on Saturday disbursed N6 million to 600 unemployed youths trained under the Micro Enterprises Enhancement Scheme (MEES) in Sokoto.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Directorate also flagged-off training programme for 1, 000 unemployed persons in vocational skills.
Alhaji Nasir Argungu, the Director General, National Directorate of Employment (NDE) disclosed this while flagging-off the training programme on Saturday.
He said that the programme was part of Federal Government’s empowerment programme across the country.
“Today we are empowering 600 persons trained under MEES with each getting N10,000 and inaugurating the new vocational skills training with 1, 000 person from Sokoto, as we are targeting no fewer than 5, 000 from the state, “he said.
He commended Sen. Aliyu Wamakko for complementing the Federal Government’s empowerment programme by sponsoring additional 400 youths to be part of the empowerment scheme.
He said that Wamakko, has shown commitment toward ensuring every person in Sokoto state becomes self-reliant.
He called on politicians and other wealthy Nigerians to emulate Wamakko by supporting the Federal Government in its effort to enhance the living standard of Nigerians.
In his remarks, Wamakko called on the beneficiaries to ensure judicious utilisation of the money to make their life and that of their community better.
