National Executive Committee (NEC) member of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Issa Aremu has congratulated workers of Kwara state for the successful celebration of 2019 May Day.

He also congratulated them for the successful conclusion of the 12th State Delegates’ Congress which led to the emergence of Comrade Issa Ore as the newly elected Chairman of the state NLC.

In a statement made available to Newsdiaryonline Thursday, Aremu who was also the Labour Party Gubernatorial Candidate in the 2019 election observed that this year’s May Day assumed special importance because it marked 100 years anniversary of International Labour Organization (ILO) and the 20th years’ anniversary of uninterrupted Democratic process  in Nigeria.

He also urged workers world wide to rededicate the struggle against income poverty, corruption, for democracy and social justice.

The labour leader congratulated all Kwarans for historic peaceful and fair election which terminated what he called almost two decades of PDP dictatorship and bad governance in Kwara state.

He called all Kwarans to display same sprit of unprecedented solidarity and partnership to banish poverty, create mass decent jobs and ensure security of lives and properties in the new dispensation.

The theme of this year’s May Day celebration jointly organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) is “Another 100 Years of Struggle for Jobs, Dignity and Social Justice in Nigeria”.

Comrade Aremu observed that the point cannot be overstated that Kwara State workers suffered untold hardship during the tenure of the outgoing government in the State through delayed and non payment of salaries.

He therefore urged newly inaugurated state Council of the NLC to partner with the new administration to usher in the desired change and improve the working and living conditions of workers and all those working and living in Kwara State.

“I urge you all to support the incoming government through improved productivity and service delivery with complementary greater commitment to defense of the rights of workers in Kwara State.” he admonished the workers.
