President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, Liberian President Sirleef Johnson and former Secretary General of the CommonWealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku have been nominated by the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) for award of honorary Doctorate Degree of the prestigious Institution on Saturday September 8, 2012 in Kaduna.
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will be the special guest of honour at the ceremony for which other African Leaders have been invited.
Disclosing this to the president of the Senate in Abuja today, the Commandant of NDA, Major General Emeka Onwuamaegbu said the awardees would be honoured for their outstanding contributions to peace, unity and development.
Specifically, Onwuamaegbu extolled the virtues of Mark for outstanding performance both as a military officer during his service and uncommon achievements as the president of the Senate.
He told Mark: ” as a student at the NDA, you left an enviable record of excellence. As a military officer, you left a record of performance and as a politician and president of the Senate, you have distinguished yourself as a good leader of men and women.
“Your Alma Mater, the NDA, is proud to honour you with its prestigious Doctorate Degree during the forthcoming convocation ceremony on Saturday , September 8, 2012, in Kaduna.”.
He also praised the Liberian president Sirlef Johnson for pioneering the rebirth of the country and bringing succour to the once war ravaged nation..
The NDA Commandant noted the former Commonwealth Secretary General distinguished himself as world citizen and brought honour to Nigeria during his tenure.
Responding , Senator Mark said he is proud to to be a product of the NDA saying that the training, discipline and patriotic ideals acquired from the Institution truly shaped his life for good.
He commended the NDA for the giant strides made so far and asked them not rest on their oars, ” I am humbled by this recognition and award. I heartily accept it”.
Senator Mark belonged to the Course 3 of the NDA.
