Man, 28, remanded in prison over alleged theft of laptop, others

A Sokoto Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 28-year-old man, Umaru Umaru, in prison over alleged theft of a laptop, handsets, earphone and hard disk valued at N89,000.

Umaru, who resides at Kofar Rimi area of Sokoto, pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, trespass and theft preferred against him.

Chief Magistrate Abubakar Adamu ordered his remand to allow for further investigations by the police.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Abubakar Tambuwal told the court that the case was reported at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Sokoto south division, by Umar Alhaji of Fakon Idi area on Sept. 17.

He said Umaru, who allegedly conspired with Fisha Abdul now at large, criminally entered the complainant’s shop located at Remand Home and stole the items.

Tambuwal said that the offences contravened Sections 97, 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.

Further hearing has been fixed for Oct 15. (NAN)
