Maitama Sule Dies In Cairo, Ganduje Declares Tuesday Work-Free Day

Respected elder statesman, Alhaji (Dr.) Yusuf Maitama Sule, Dan Masanin Kano has died. A  statement by  Kano State Government said he died at a hospital in Cairo,Egypt, Monday.

Already, the state government has declared Tuesday July 4th as work free day to mourn his death.

The late Dan Masani Kano was one of the surviving members of the group of young leaders mentored  by the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto up till the early sixties.

Maitama Sule was a  kind and warm person.His oratory made him quite popular and  he was always sought after to speak at major events while he was alive.

Confirming his death on Monday, Malam Muhammad Garba Commissioner of Information,Kano State said in a statement, “The death has occurred today of Alhaji (Dr.) Yusuf Maitama Sule, Dan Masanin Kano.

“Dr. Yusuf Maitama Sule died at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt where he was receiving treatment for an illness.

“Funeral prayer for the  deceased will be  conducted tomorrow Tuesday at the Emir’s Palace, Kofar Kudu, by 4:00pm.

“Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has declared tomorrow Tuesday a work – free day in the state to mourn the death of the elder statesman.

“May Allah grant his soul eternal peace and mercy. Amin”
