Few hours after the approval of a six month extension of emergency rule in Borno,Yobe and Adamawa states, some yet to be identified gunmen on Thursday night unleashed terror in Yola, Adamawa state capital killing people.

Residents say that during the attack, which lasted for half hour, at least three people were reportedly killed, as others say that those killed were members of the civilian JTF that had been assisting soldiers in fishing out insurgents.

The attack occurred at Kasuwar Gwari, a few metres away from a military check point along Jimeta Bye pass.

“The attackers numbering about eight stormed the popular Kasuwar Gwari market, fingered their victims and shot them at close range,’’ said Musa Aboki, an orange seller said.

The eyewitness added that serious stampede ensued in the area as the news of the attack spread like wild fire.

In the ensuing confusion, many people sustained injuries as others ran for dear lives .This followed sporadic shootings.

Security operatives enforcing the emergency rule in the state have since launched a manhunt for the fleeing gunmen.

The manhunt has led to the closure of all roads, leading to and from the state capital thereby creating long queues along major roads, while the busy Jimeta Shopping Complex was closed down.

Anxious journalists who visited the Brigade Commander of the 23rd Armourd Brigade,Brigadier General Fattai Oladipo Alli went away in disappointment as he said he was too busy to talk to the press.
