#Tracknigeria: Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed has  urged residents of the state to remain calm as the Nigerian Army begins its ‘Operation Python Dance III’ in the state.

The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication to the Governor, Dr  Muyideen Akorede, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Ilorin.

He quoted the governor  as making the call after a meeting with the new Acting Brigade Commander, Sobi, Col. A. A. Egbejule, at Government House.

Ahmed, according to the statement,  said he had  received a thorough briefing on the exercise from the commander, assuring residents that the security operation being held across the country was  designed to maintain law and order ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

He urged all residents of the state to go about their lawful activities without fear as the exercise was designed to reassure members of the public of  their safety before, during and after the general elections.

Ahmed also said the exercise was consistent with the decisions of the State Security Council earlier in the month and would  complement other security operations already put in place.

These decisions, he said, include the establishment of a joint task force to provide high visibility security presence across the state as well as enforce existing laws and regulations guiding electioneering campaigns and conduct of elections.

The governor said additional measures include mass media campaign against illegal possession of firearms being undertaken by the state government in partnership with the  police.(NAN)
