Some youths have taken to the streets Sunday evening in protest against the emergence of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the new emir of Kano.
The protesters are believed to favour other candidates for the highly coveted seat. Even the intrigues prior to the announcement of a new emir were an indication that the selection process might have become combustible.
The Peoples Democratic Party rushed to issue a statement when rumour mill earlier indicated that Sanusi Lamido had lost out to Sanusi Ado Bayero ,son of the late emir.But the state government had not announced the emir then.PDP which had congratulated Sanusi Ado Beyro beat a retreat
Reports said shortly after the eventual announcement of the former governor of CBN as the new emir, by the APC led government in Kano,those who were expecting other candidates took to the streets,kicking,setting bonfires.
Being a state hitherto in the grip of insecurity, armed security personnel reportedly prevented protesters from reaching some places.
