Liyel Imoke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has joined his sacked colleagues who have regained their seats as he was on Sunday declared winner of Saturday’s governorship poll in Cross River,Imoke polled 451,544 votes to beat other contestants.Imoke and four others belonging to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party,PDP were recently sacked by the Supreme Court which said their tenure had elapsed.
Imoke, the immediate past governor of the state, got an overwhelming majority votes to defeat the other candidates, including his closest rival, Mr Usani Usani of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) ,who came second with 31,026 votes .
Meanwhile, congratulatory messages have been pouring in for the governor ePresident Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has congratulated Mr. Liyel Imoke on his victory in Saturday’s governorship election in Cross River State.As he prepares to begin his second full term in office as Governor, President Jonathan urges Mr. Imoke to move quickly to establish a dedicated, purposeful and efficient administration that will help him to consolidate on the laudable achievements of his first term and boost the pace of socio-economic development in the state.
Jonathan also assured the returning governor of the continued support, cooperation and assistance of the Federal Government and urges him to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in him by the people of Cross River State by fulfilling their expectations of faster progress and development.
The president prayed that God Almighty will grant Imoke good health and strength, and even more wisdom and courage as he returns to the service of his people and the nation at the helm of state affairs in Cross River State and wished Imoke a very successful second term.
Equally President of the Senate, Senator, David Mark has congratulated the governor – elect of Cross River State Senator Liyel Imoke over his victory at Saturday’s gubernatorial polls saying that his re- election would be a great leap for the social-economic and Tourism development of the state and beyond.
Senator Mark said the re-election of Imoke would profit the people of the state because he has the opportunity to consolidate and complete the people oriented projects earmarked to transform the state.
In a congratulatory message to Imoke shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him winner, the president of the Senate urged him to sustain the development strides especially on tourism which earned the state the accolade of all Nigerians and beyond.
He urged the governor-elect and his team to reconcile all sections of the state and encourage them to contribute their quota to the development of the state, adding that the time call for all hands must be on deck to uplift the society.
Senator Mark was optimistic that with team spirit to work ,all challenges could be surmounted.He praised the electoral umpire, INEC, security operatives and other stakeholders for making the election smooth ride for the people of Cross River state.
