The Peoples Democratic Party,PDP may have devised a new way of keeping its serving lawmakers under its control as it  announced  a special committee to screen serving members who wish to re-contest  election.House of Reps members whose Speaker Aminu Tambuwal has defected to opposition All Progressives Congress,APC  are believed to be the main targets of this latest move.

A statement by Olisa Metuh  said “Owing the scheduled resumption of the House of Representatives on  Thursday, November 20, 2014, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic  Party (PDP) has set up a Special Committee to screen all serving members  of the National Assembly aspiring to re-contest in the 2015 National  Assembly election in Abuja on Thursday, November 20th in the afternoon  and Friday, November 21, 2014.

“All such members of the National Assembly are by this advised to appear  before the special screening panel at the National Secretariat of the  party in Abuja with their relevant documents for the screening on the  above-mentioned dates.

The statement was issued after Speaker of the House of Representatives ,Tambuwal announced his directive for the House to reconvene on Thursday.

PDP’s announcement of this special committee could be interpreted to a means to get reps to do the party’s bidding it its well-known plot to oust Tambuwal. It was not clear whether there were  other motives behind this move by the party at the time of writing this story.
