President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has again canvassed that sports development across the federation where all sections of the country would participate in a friendly atmosphere could be the channel and indeed a panacea to the unabating security challenges facing the nation .
Speaking at the 5th edition of Governor Gabriel Suswam Pro-Am Golf competition held in Otukpo Golf and Country Club, St. Mark, Akpegede during the weekend, Senator Mark said it was not a mistake that God created Nigeria with various ethnic and religious groups adding that the diversity should be exploited for good .
He stressed that security of lives and property is a major component of the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan administration saying “with the various sporting activities, be it Golf, football, basketball, hockey, tennis and many others, our security challenges would be addressed and unity of purpose becomes the order of the day.
“We are determined to double our efforts this year, this is the first golf tournament in the country’s golf tournament calendar, Governor Gabriel Suswam Pro-Am Golf championship. We will continue to build many other platforms where Nigerians would be able to interact and live in peace and harmony with one another”,
Senator Mark however called on the Federal Ministry of Sports and its counterparts across the 36 States of the Federation to join in the task of growing the spirit of love, peace and good neighbourliness through sports development.
Earlier, the Governor of Benue State, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Suswam who was represented by his Deputy, Steve Lawani commended the President of the Senate for his commitment to the game of golf and other sports, assuring that the State government will not compromise in its resolve to develop talents and encourage sports in all parts of the State.
He promised that the State government will continue to improve on future tournaments in order to elevate the competition to international standards.
Amos Korblah, the defending Champion again won this year’s 5th edition of Governor Gabriel Suswam Pro-Am Golf championship with a whopping sum of One Million and Eighty Thousand Naira only and a trophy while Wilfred Amina won the female category of the tournament.
