The presidential candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP)Mr Yabagi Sanni says he would turn the economy of the country around within a short time, if elected.
He said this when he visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta onm Wednesday.
Sanni, who lamented the security situation of the country, said he has the capacity and knowledge, if given the chance.
He lamented the killings and wanton destruction of property in the last eight years.
“The fact is that insecurity which brought this government to power is today pervasive. Nigerians are living in fear and can no longer travel from one point to the other without the fear of being kidnapped or being killed out rightly,” he said.
Sanni also lamented the retrogressive economic growth in the country, saying the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has nosedived.
“This is a country whose GDP was about 570billion dollars just about three years ago, growing at a rate of 5 per cent or more and today, the economy has gone down to 1.5 per cent growth rate. With all the potentials of the country, believe you me, it is not our lot.
“God did not plan or mean or want us to suffer hunger, deprivation, killing, lack of capacity in governance, lack of direction,” he said.
He noted that his visit to Obasanjo is to seek his blessings and advise, saying the elder statesman harped on the unity of the country.
“We know his position on issues of good governance and unity, which is what we represent and that is why we are here to tell him.
“The fact that he welcomes participation of everybody in the country that feels he has something to contribute to the development of the country.
“He also believes that I have the capacity and the knowledge, if Nigerians give me the opportunity to lead because the country like he says is a promise of greatness,” he said. (NAN)
