#TrackNigeria: The Sokoto chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and its governorship Candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto have filed a petition at the 2019 Gubernatorial Elections Petitions Tribunal to challenge the election of Governor Aminu Waziiri Tambuwal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A member of the APC legal team, Barrister Bashir Mu’azu Jodi disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday shortly after the sitting of the Tribunal.
Representing the Lead Counsel, Dr Alex Izinyon, SAN, Jodi said the counsels had over forty witnesses to present at the Court when the hearing of the case commences.
“There are cogent grounds upon which the election of Governor Aminu Waziiri Tambuwal is being challenged. They center on violations of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) during the March 9th, 2019, gubernatorial election as well as the March 23rd, 2019 rerun election.
“The respondents are the PDP gubernatorial candidate, governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” he said.
According to Jodi, the respondents would later be served after which they would reply in two weeks before the Tribunal will fix a date for hearing.
Meanwhile, the Court has granted an Exparte Order allowing APC Counsels to inspect the Electoral materials used for the two polls.
The materials include various forms, ballot papers and card reader machines, among others.
Jodi explained that INEC would later be served with the order and a date would be fixed for the inspection of the materials.
