Governors better placed to fight insecurity, says Kalu

Sen. Orji Kalu has said that state governors are better placed than the federal government to fight insecurity, banditry and other violent crimes plaguing the country.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the former governor of Abia State was said to have expressed worry over acts of kidnapping, insurgency and banditry in some parts of the country.

The statement said that Kalu paid a courtesy call on Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi on Wednesday in Lokoja where he spoke.

 

 

 

He explained that state governors were in a better position to tackle the challenges, urging them to quickly rise up to the occasion.

“The alarming cases of kidnapping, banditry and armed robbery across the country in recent times is very worrisome.

“ The governors remain the best leaders that could effectively use their positions to remedy the situation,” Kalu was quoted as saying in the statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Onogu Mohammed.

The former governor, who is now the Chief Whip of the Senate, commended Bello for ensuring security of lives and property in Kogi, calling on other governor’s to emulate him.

 

 

 

 

“Kogi is most peaceful in the leadership of Gov. Yahaya Bello. The harmonious coexistence among the various ethnic groups in the state attests to this and this is worthy of emulation,” he said.

He also lauded the governor for giving youth and women empowerment a priority by creating opportunities for them to serve in his government.

He called on the people of the state to continue to support Bello so as to attract the needed democracy dividends to the nook and crannies of the state.

 

 

 

 

In his response, Bello thanked his visitor for his kind words , encouragement and motivation which he said would spur him to do more for the people.

 

 

Bello said that Kalu had distinguished himself as a detribalised and true Nigerian, calling on him not to be tired of preaching peace and unity among all Nigerians.

On the ongoing APC membership registration and revalidation exercise, Bello said that the party was making progress.(NAN)
