Fuel Queues Return Over Oil Workers’ Strike

Long queues have returned to filling stations in Abuja Nigeria as oil workers  began a  strike  action today.

Queues were observed at fuel stations along Kubwa road in Abuja .Reports from other parts of the Federal Capital Territory,FCT indicated the same scenario all over.Also, commuters had to wait a little longer at bus stations for vehicles as they began to feel the impact of the fuel scarcity which is always accompanied by hikes in transport fares .

Oil workers reportedly said “The strike will affect all operations in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the oil and gas industry, as members will be withdrawn from all oil and gas installations.

“It will not be suspended until there is a strong commitment from the government and affected managements/operators to resolve the issues.

“The NUPENG and PENGASSAN frown at the unfair practices, such as transfer and termination of appointment of national officers of the two unions. ‘’

PENGASSAN Spokesman ,Mr  Babatunde Oke reportedly  listed  delay in carrying out the Turn- Around Maintenance TAM of the refineries;global crude oil prices slump and non -implementation of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act to reflect Nigerians in management positions and expatriate quota law among the reasons for the oil workers’ action.
