Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has tasked newly promoted officers of the Corps on the need for mentorship of younger officers.
Oyeyemi gave the task at the Decoration ceremony for newly promoted senior officers of the Corps in Abuja on Friday.
He reminded them that as part of their duties as frontline officers, they should not forget one of the corps’ unfinished project of mentorship.
“With your new status, more responsibility for mentorship also accrues to you as individuals and in the collective.
“No one will do it for us, we must focus on our goals and not on obstacle as we must not show our weakness but discover more of our strengths.
“Since we have dreamt it and believed it, we owe posterity to build it to an epochal conclusion for other organisations to emulate in Nigeria and beyond,” he said.
Boboye said that the promotion came at a time when the corps was undergoing administrative and operational reforms and as such the officers should contribute their quota to the progress of the agency.
“As many of you will come on-board management at various levels, this elevation is not the end as there are many challenges ahead.
“It is certainly going to be hard as usual but as we have also often come out, it is not impossible for the corps to continue to excel in its duties and responsibilities.”
The corps marshal said that the promotion was in accordance with management’s policy on staff capacity development and motivation designed to enhance career growth and increased productivity of personnel.
FRSC Board Chairman, Malam Bukhari Bello urged the officers to be prepared for higher responsibilities and more challenging tasks.
He also called on them to rededicate themselves to challenges of their new ranks and fully support the Federal Government’s change agenda which involved character reorientation and personal sacrifices.
Bello commended the management and staff of FRSC for their commitment towards efficient traffic management at all times.
The chairman said that the exercise involved physical fitness tests, written and oral examinations, evidence of contribution to the corps and above all integrity and loyalty to the system.
Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano urged the newly promoted officers to be transparent and dedicated in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Ganduje, represented by his deputy, Nasiru Gawuna also commended the management for ensuring that the Kano office of FRSC was functional.
He also applauded the corps in its efforts at ensuring safety of lives and property on the highway.
Speaking on behalf of the officers, DCM Julius Asom expressed gratitude to God and management of FRSC for the promotion.
The promoted officers include four Deputy Corps Marshals (DCMs), 14 Assistant Corps Marshals (ACMs) and nine Corps Commanders (CCs) serving at the National Headquarters, Abuja. (NAN)
