The run up to the gubernatorial elections in Edo state has taken yet another bloody twist as Olaitan Oyerinde the private secretary to incumbent Governor Adams Oshiomhole has been shot dead in his residence in Benin.
Though details of what appears like political assassination were not available, it falls within a pattern that has been unfolding in the last two weeks in the state.Three journalists were killed last week when a truck rammed into Governor Oshiomhole’s convoy in the state. It was said that Oshiomhole who might have been the target escaped death by the whiskers.
The day after the crash Louis Odion ,the state commissioner for information also raised alarm over what he said was the presence of armed gunmen at his residence.Fortunately, he did not sleep at home that night the gunmen invaded his residence.
The death of Oshiomhole’s personal aide thus raises concern over growing insecurity in the state ahead of the elections.
