A new non profit organization has emerged in Katsina state in the northern part of Nigeria.It is the Daughters of Katsina Foundation (DOKF).Fatima Y. Usman Katsina is the new body’s President.
A statement made available to Newsdiaryonline by the president said “Our prayer is to empower the women and children of our society by primarily giving food to the people, and further by awarding micro grants and vocational training, in line with President Buhari’s Social Investment Program (SIP), for basic socio-economic requirements for good quality of day to day life (A Taimaka ma Jama’a).”
It also pledges “financial empowerment for micro and small businesses and enterprises.That is, to first give a man fish so he will have the physical and emotional stamina required; and then teach him how to fish so he can feed his family for a lifetime.
Furthermore, the foundation said “the Food Drive and subsequent programs and activities will include our male folk as we are Mothers to our Male Children and Sisters to our Brothers. We are Together, Muna Tare. Each recipient will be registered into our database.”
Its inauguration ceremony was held on eid el fitri sallah eve, precisely the night before Salah on June 24th, 2017. During the ceremony 2kg of meat, 5kg of rice and 4 liters of cooking oil were distributed to over 200 people. The officials prayed that people would enjoy Sallah celebrations with their families and indulge in the knowledge that they are not alone: “We are together. Muna Tare!!”
Dignitaries in In attendance included, Sa’I Katsina, Alhaji Ahamdu Na-Funtua (Katsina Emirate Counselor); Alhaji Sani Lawal Madawaki and Abdulahi Aliyu Yar’adua, Press Secretary to the Secretary to the Government, SGS, Dr Mustapha Inuwa. The SGS who sent his media aide was there as representative of Katsina State governor,Aminu Bello Masari.
