The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Askira Uba Local Government area of Borno state is in crisis following the alleged decision of a national officer of the party in the area to impose his favorite as preferred candidate for the State House of Assembly.
Already, other contenders for the state House of Assembly seat from the Local Government have drawn a battle line with the national officer and appealed to Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state to intervene before the crisis tear the party apart.
Journalists in Kaduna were told that a national executive of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Isa Chul ,had allegedly, imposed his man on other aspirants for the House of Assembly race on the platform of the party from Askira Uba Local Government area of Borno state, a development that has caused serious disquiet in the area.
The other aspirants who felt marginalized by the officer, vehemently disagreed and accused Chul of undermining internal party democracy ,of which they had earlier been assured in the APC.
“He must be prevented from imposing his favorite on us, this is not democratic. We call on our leader, our Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shetima to intervene and bring him to order. What he is trying to do will not work for the success and unity of the APC in the long run, “a concerned member of the party, Abubakar Askira had said.
He explained that in a democracy such as practiced in their locality, imposition of candidate was counterproductive and was capable of affecting the fortunes of the party during election in 2015.
“The governor is detribalized and can resolve this problem on merit. We pray he comes in and resolve this problem. Chul must not be allowed to turn the APC in our area into a personal enterprise, or else we decamp to the PDP,” he said.
