As Sokoto prepares to host the 42nd Annual Conference of the Civil Service Commission of the Federation, Chairman of the Sokoto State Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Mujtaba Ahmad has observed that much is required to be done restore the lost glory of the Civil Service.
He made the observation during a pre-conference briefing of Journalists at the Conference Hall of the Commission on Tuesday.
Decrying the extent of corruption in the country, Ahmad expressed his disgustion at the level of the malady.
“Corruption has been glorified in this country to the extent that the civil service of today has been bastardized to such a state where you would have to follow your file with naira from office to office if you want things done,” he said.
While identifying political interference as the major factor for discipline in the service, Ahmad recommended a holistic review and augmentation of the salaries and emoluments of civil servants.
He however commended Sokoto State government, which has implemented 110 percent salaries increase for all categories of civil servants in the state.
Ahmad was optimistic that the Conference, which would take place from 1st to 6th June 2014, would take far-reaching decisions that heighten the moral standards of the service.
