Civil Society delegates to the on going National Conference addressed Nigerians on Friday on the journey so far. During the briefing there was a general agreement among them that “revolutionary” progress has been made already.
Those who spoke at the International Press Centre ,Radio House include Comrades Jaye Gaskia,Ezenwa Nwagwu ,Shetu Alfa ,Dr IsaacAsume Osuoka and Charles Ibiam. The Trade Union Congress and the youths’ delegate were represented at the briefing but no representative of the Nigeria Labour Congress ,NLC came as they were said to be attending the NWC of the congress.
The delegates appraised the challenges so far and the progress recorded ,and Gaskia said even if the conference ends as it is today, with the reports so far submitted , this will be noted for being fundamentally different from the past conferences.Osuaka said fundamental decisions have been taken already and they are revolutionary. The same arguments were espoused by other delegates present.
Responding to the recent controversy over the delay of delegates allowances, Ezenwa said the issue of allowances was immaterial .He said the delgates did not go on strikes when allowances were delayed as they were ready to make sacrifices. The same position was reiterated by Shetu Alfa who said the nonpayment of allowances was not an issue.
So far reports of 6 out of 20 committees have been considered by the conference plenary .
