Li Xuda, the Cultural Counsellor, Embassy of People’s Republic of China (PRC) in Nigeria, on Saturday in Abuja commended Nigerians for the cordial relationship between Nigeria and China.
Xuda, who is also the Director of the China Cultural Centre in Abuja, said the cordial relationship had been of immense benefits to both countries’ governments and peoples.
“This cordial relationship has helped both countries in many ways, and we should all be commended and also be grateful for this,” he said.
On the 2019 edition of the Chinese-NUJ Table Tennis Tournament, Xuda said it was important for journalists to create time to keep fit and socialise considering the nature of their job.
The annual tournament took place on Saturday at the China Cultural Centre in Nigeria, Abuja.
The tournament is organised by the FCT Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) with support from the Embassy of the PRC in Nigeria and Leadership newspaper.
The table tennis event was first staged in 2017 and is now in its third year.
The event provides an opportunity for journalists in the FCT to relax while also socialising with Chinese nationals based in Abuja.
Welcoming participants to the event, Emmanuel Ogbeche, the FCT NUJ chairman, urged players to compete fairly and use the opportunity to network and relax.
Ogbeche thanked the China Cultural Centre for the support it has been rendering to the union since the tournament started in 2017.
62 participants registered for the table tennis tournament in the men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles and doubles categories.
Medals, trophies and cash prizes were presented to players who finished overall first, second and third in all the four categories.(NAN)
