Mr Babatunde Abdulkareem, Head of Political Science Department , Kwara State College of Education, Oro, has advised parents to invest and make their children’s education top priority ,as it is the best legacy to bequeath on them.

Abdulkareem, who spoke as the world celebrates the 2018 Children’s Day said on Sunday in Ilorin that most parents were reluctant to invest in their children’s education.

“Instead, these parents will prefer to change their wardrobes every month. Changing of wardrobes and buying of jewelries every month has become a norm among most parents.

“Some find it hard to enroll their wards in the best schools, rather they prefer to pay less in schools with low standards. If children’s education is treated with levity, it is dangerous and the effects will be felt in the nearest future.

”Also, pursuing big projects to the detriment of your children’s education will spell doom eventually. It is time for parents to value children’s education above other things. Parents must be aware that education is not cheap; you can’t just have it on a platter of gold.

“Let parents play their parts; your children are your future, as such, do not deprive them their right to life and education. Invest hugely on them and this should be every parents responsibility,” he said.

Abdulkareem, however, advised children to be disciplined and study very hard in order to be useful to themselves and the nation.

Children’s Day, a day set aside to honour children, is marked every year on May 27. (NAN)
