“It’s unfortunate and regrettable that since 2015, we have not been able to hold convocation for our graduands, but this time around, we are going to convocate six different sets.

“The cheering news is that the Governing Council, at its 59th regular meeting held on Dec. 17, 2021, confirmed the promotion of 17 new professors and 15 new readers, cutting across departments and faculties in the university.

“The promotion of six of the new professors is historic, as this was the first time in the history of the institution that such a large number of senior academics would be promoted to the professorial rank.

“I want to use this opportunity to, once again, congratulate the new professors and readers on the well-deserved heights,” she stated.

Ohurene-Tenuche said that the institution’s focus was to ensure sustained linkages with international scholars and institutions so as to enhance the visibility of the university.

She expressed happiness that some faculties and departments in the university had risen to the challenge of exchange of knowledge with some other institutions.

The vice-chancellor said that the convocation lecture would be delivered on Jan 27 by Prof. Yakubu Ochefu, a former Vice-Chancellor and current Secretary-General of Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities.

She gave the theme of the lecture as: “Education and Security Challenges in Nigeria.”

Ohurene-Tenuche said that the award of first degree would hold on Jan. 28, while prizes and awards would be given to the deserving graduands.

According to her, the ceremony will be rounded off on Jan. 29 with the award of higher degrees and post-graduate diplomas. (NAN)
