Association partners NDLEA against drug abuse, trafficking

The Nigerian Military School Ex-Boys Association has promised to partner with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the ongoing fight on illicit drug trafficking.

This is contained in a statement by the NDLEA Spokesman, Mr Femi Babafemi, on Saturday in Abuja.

The solidarity message brought to the NDLEA was led by the President of the group, Femi Ikuponiyi, during a visit to the Chairman, NDLEA, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa.

Ikuponiyi said they were on the visit to identify with Marwa’s strides of accomplishment and vision for the NDLEA as an ex-boy and a pride of the ex-boys family.

He expressed the willingness of the ex-boys to join in the advocacy to stem and eradicate the menace of illicit drugs among the Nigerian youths particularly in areas of intelligence gathering and reportage.

He commended Marwa and described him as a pacesetter and an exemplary ambassador of the Nigerian Military School ex- boys Association.

In his response, Marwa thanked the Nigerian Military Ex-Boys Association for their visit, particularly in offering to support the drug war.

Marwa stressed that such was an indication that the key message of the War Against Drug Abuse, (WADA) was fast achieving its target of mobilising every citizen to take ownership of the battle against the drug scourge.

In another development, Marwa bagged the DAILY ASSET newspaper’s Public Servant of the year award for 2021.

Speaking on the modalities for selection, the Editor-In- Chief and Publisher of DAILY ASSET newspaper, Dr Cletus Akwaya, noted that the selection was painstakingly done.

Akwaya said that Marwa was selected out of numerous others in recognition of his enormous contribution to the fight against illicit drugs within one year in the saddle as the Chairman of the agency.

He extolled the sterling qualities of Marwa in all positions he had occupied in the past.

This, he said was including, Military Governor, Borno State, Military Administrator, Lagos State and Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Africa.

He described the successes recorded by Marwa within one year in office as monumental.

He said that the arrest of 12,306 drug peddlers, including seven barons, seizure of 3.4 million kilogrammes of assorted illicit drugs and counselling and rehabilitation of 7,761 drug users within 12 months remain unparalleled.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the fifth Annual Awards and Lecture had as its theme: “The Media, National Security and 2023 Elections.

The lecture was delivered by the DG, NTA, Malam Yakubu Mohammed .who was represented at the event. (NAN).
